So I pulled Ray out of day care yesterday. They decided not to pursue the payment of a 30-day notice, as I think the director saw that I would nuke her for suggesting it.
The story for the curious :
Our day care was at the corner of Cary parkway (as the name implies, a busy road) and YMCA drive. t has a fence that faces the road, with about a 1/4 acre buffer between the play area and the road. The play are has a gate with a latch on it. It seems the latch doesn’t do what it should, because most of the time it’s secured with a bungee cord. I have spoken with some people and this has been the case for quite some time.
My son escaped through that gate, and was apprehended by the teacher before he could get to the street.
Now, if this weren’t bad enough, the director didn’t (a) tell us, or (b) fix the gate. I found out a few days later form the teacher.
When confronted, the director claimed that the gate was well within state regs, and the teacher had not been observant enough.
Say WHAT???? Not observant enough? I admit, the teacher probably shouldn’t have missed him escaping, but the fact that the gate is improperly secured had *NOTHING* to do with it according to this lady.
I looked at a new day care with Ray yesterday, and walking in the door, it felt friendly. Warm, even. it’s about the same ratio (8:1), but it feels better, and costs less. We’ll be doing half days Thursday and Friday to transition him in, and see how it works out for the next two weeks.
If Ray is happy, I’m happy. So we’ll see.
