Meetings yesterday. But I wrote a lot of good code, so I’m happy.
Stopped by Cerebral Hobbies in Chapel Hill and found the GURPS Basic Set as well as the out-of-print GURPS Diskworld an the in-print GURPS Diskworld Addendum. Picked up a copy of Chez Geek too.
Picked up Allen & Son’s BBQ (PBO location) on the way home. I have a new favorite BBQ joint.
Watched the Akira SE DVD once Ray went to bed. It’s a different Movie in Japanese. It actually (*gasp*) makes sense with subtitles and without drugs. Plus the voices fit the characters, unlike the original US release.
I may watch the new English Dub, just to see what they’ve done with it. Part of my head says there were some minor re-edits, to remove some violence, but I could be wrong. Until I do a side-by-side comparison with the original US released VHS, I can’t be sure.
i dig GURPS space, but there doesn’t seem to be anyone around interested in sci-fi gaming anymore. well, outside of star wars i guess.
i was really impressed with the new dub, and would dig seeing the japanese version one day…
let me know what you find out if you compare the 2 — it had been so long (years+years) since i’d seen the original before i saw the new one a few months ago, that i was having a hard time remembering what had been changed…
I dunno – I think Malaclypse still does Paranoia on occation, although that’s not hardcore Sci-Fi.
Once I get the hang of GURPS, though, I plan on doing an online thing – since getting time to do tabletop is at a premium – say, once a year until the kids are older.
There were some rough cuts in the early part of the movie, and then later when Kai shoots the guy in the sewage tunnel, I think they snipped a *SMALL* bit.
Most of it is violence, and I’m really disapointed in Pioneer now. Although this is par for the course with their US releases, I guess. If they can cut, re-edit, or modify an anime to make it more palatable to US audiences, they will. Some of the worst US releases were from them…
ah… paranoia. awesome.
i feel lucky to have cerebral hobbies so nearby, but i wish they would keep their stock of minis updated. and, you know, put prices on them.
I bet.
It was murder when Hungates in North Hills (since moved to Crabtree) and the Cameon Village Hobby Shop (mostly models & trains – no miniatures or gaming supplies, really) were the only places I had to raid for that stuff.
My only beef, having seen Cerebral Hobbies for the first time yesterday is that it could really use someone to look after the *STORE*, and not the gamers. You can tell fan-run stores by the disorginization *grin*
