Catchup

Got paid (some) today. I think we can hold out and finish August on the upswing.

Finished at wZ yesterday. Glad that’s done with.

Got the chip for my Sparc IPC, installed it, and found out that in order to do a headless install, I need some serial converter, or a Sun Monitor. I’ll see if I can borrow one or the other from when I finish orientation.

Speaking of orientation, I got the schedule for Monday today. Should be interesting. I’m really chomping at the bit, though, to start interacting with the guys I’ll be working with. That can start happening on Thursday, from the looks of things.

Anyway, today has been mostly generic day off stuff. Hang with the kids, help cook dinner, laundry, etc, etc.

And now, back my weekend.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

Congrats if I haven’t said it yet! Doug wants to know what department you will be in…

Heh, your comments on orientation made me realize I never did go through any :)

I think you alreay did say something, but that’s OK. Thanks, and thanks again.

I’ll be in internal sales, with Spot. I managed to see Doug’s cube on my tour of the building, not that he uses it *grin* (although it looked like he had some deliveries to pick up…)

From the looks of the schedule, Day one is the biggie, and maybe Bascha’s session on day 2 (which will be a little weird for me).

Day three is “Desktop User’s Guide” presneted by a Help Desk Technition. I expect that, unfortunately, day three will be less than exciting…..

There’s a good chance you can get out of day 3 — they don’t tend to force people to go to that one if they already know how to use Linux for everything they’ll need to do
