An unpopular opinion

Pardon the interruption :

He’s a fucking BASKETBALL coach, not the SECOND COMING OF CHRIST. I know everyone is war weary, but good gods, people……..

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

I thought you’d lived in North Carolina long enough to understand that ACC basketball is more important than life itself ;-)

Or at least, it is to an an extremely high percentage of the population around here.

  2. bagelhead says:

no, he’s not the second coming of christ… but yes, he *is* a good coach, and the one that most carolina folks wanted… that’s grounds for some partying… now, if people are lauding him as more than a coach, then that’s wrong, but it’s good to have a coach again.

at least that’s my take on it, from the alumni position…

  3. alchemist says:

Oh, I’m sure it’s a big thing for UNC fans, but :

It’s the top story on all the local news shows.
WUNC is leading the news breaks with the story.
They interupted prime time TV for the press conference last night.

This just cements my opinion that they take basketball WAY to seriously down here.

  4. spot says:

Obviously, I’m the second coming of christ. Your false gods will be the end of you!

Seriously though. Very absurd. Of course, for NCSU to have good conference games now, we’re going to have to upgrade Herb Sendek. And the rest of the NCSU team.

  5. jay says:

And everyone knows the second coming is a player — not a coach.

Christ has a wicked good outside game.

    Keep hoping…

  6. detritus says:

Who are they going to put in the lane? Buddah takes up space, but I don’t think he can rebound well.

    Vishnu should do ok.

  7. jay says:

No doubt. 4 hands are better than two.

  8. badger says:

Four hands as well, and a trunk gives him reach for those long 3-pointer shots.

  9. jay says:

Eat anyone attempting to enter the lane?

  10. badger says:

Yog-Sothoth. As the gate and the way, he *is* the lane.

  11. bagelhead says:

yeah, it was a big thing to UNC fans… and i’m not surprised about the top story on the news… i am a little surprised that they broke through prime time TV for the press conference, though…

i mean, i know it’s big “sporting world” news, but it’s not war-calibre…

although, i wonder if that’s why they did do the break-through… so that folks could get “breaking news” of a happier variety for once
