So I’ve got this laptop on loan from and have been fighting with trying to get an OS of some sort on it. Last night I managed to get CentOS 3.5 to install (using a boot floppy). But, of course, the 2.4 kernel doesn’t have a driver for the PCMCIA bus on this model. so it need 2.6.
No 2.6 based distros boot from floppy – the 2.6 kernel is too big. So I just burned the centos 4 disk 1, grabbed the pxeboot images off of it, and booted them in grub. And now it’s happily running the centos 4 installer.
Now to see if it actually works after install….
