Oh this is going to be fun

So I was off to re-register trilug.org this morning and my registrar was unavailable. Odd, I think, but the work net had been flaky of late. The points me to an URL saying that “DomainGeeks is closed”

Well crap.

A flurry of movement later, and I’ve got everything except one domain transfering to godaddy. The Pack domain is LOCKED. OpenSRS says to contact my reseller. My reseller is…well crap, this could be interesting.

I left a message for Fairplay Communications (the DomainGeeks parent company) and hope they call me back.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

What URL indicated “DomainGeeks is closed”?

  2. clubjuggler says:

    This one: http://www.fpcc.net/

That, and the fact that domaingeeks.com doesn’t respond to web requests.

  3. jay says:

    I didn’t notice the http://www.fpcc.net

However, http://www.domaingeeks.com still works for me at work and at home on Earthlink.

As I have a handful of domains there I guess I should move them off soon.

Whoa! I swear http://www.domaingeeks.com/ didn’t work for me this weekend and it definitely didn’t work from work this morning. I did, however, send them an e-mail asking about the website before finding the notice of Fairplay going out of business. It was at that point that I decided to move my domain to godaddy and discovered that trilug.org was just about to expire so I should probably mention everything to too!

Eh, I never liked domaingeeks -that- much.

    It’s just a registrar. :)

http://www.domaingeeks.com still works for me at home on roadrunner. OTOH, I don’t use them and so am not personally concerned.

And as luck would have it… one of my five domains has no “Domain Auth Code” which, based on my understanding of the forms, put it in domain name limbo.

  8. alchemist says:

I had one like that – I just entered one and used that code to do the transfer.

Now that the domaingeeks site is back up I was able to unlock the one domain, so here we go!
