Rob Bell, ‘the gods aren’t angry’

Tonight 5 of us from gracepoint went to see Rob Bell’s "the gods aren't angry" speaking tour.

Rob Bell is an engaging, entertaining, funny, and articulate speaker. His message is amazing. He is preaching revolutionary things, and if he’s coming to a town near you, go see him. And if you miss this tour, buy the DVD. I know I will.

Picked up a hardback copy of “Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith” and got it and the “Everything is Spiritual” tour DVD signed. Had a fanboy moment. He’s a lot taller in person than the Nooma Videos let on.

Oh, and the guy out front preaching loudly (and counter to Rob’s message) tells me that Rob is on the right track. I have a lot to chew on from this one.

Tomorrow is the big day. Lots to do, but it’s gonna be lots of fun. See those of you who can make it here!

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

I have to ask… what was the guy out front preaching?

He was preaching hellfire and brimstone. Repent now or burn. That God is angry.

Which is one of the things Rob speaks AGAINST in the Nooma Video “Bullhorn.”

He seemed to have pissed off a LOT of evangelicals with that one….

Velvet Elvis is an amazing book. Rob Bell takes everything I’ve ever thought about the christian faith (and felt guilty about thinking), and puts it into a single place. :)

And that tends to piss people off, since he basically throws their theology out and tells them where they’re wrong.

I cannot wait to get the DVD for this tour….
