Review: Speed Racer

I realized upon exiting the theater that Ursula and I had seen all but one of the “blockbusters” to date. Iron Man, Caspian, and Speed Racer. We still need to see Indy.

And after Speed Racer, I could use a good dose of Professor Jones.

Before I go farther, the kids LOVED it.

It was basically the 70’s cartoon in a 21st century format. The plotline, the races, the whole thing SCREAMED “cartoon.” The villains were villain-y, the good guys were good – no ambiguity. And they kept the little twists that made the cartoon fun. I enjoyed it, but in that way you enjoy a bad shot of tequila. Good while it’s going down, but after you need something to get the taste out of your mouth…or in this case, eyeballs.

You know, maybe I should have saved Iron Man for later in the summer, because so far, NOTHING has been as much fun to watch.

About Kevin Sonney

Kevin Sonney - who, contrary to popular opinion was NOT raised by wolves - grew up in central North Carolina. He fell into the technology field by accident in 1991, when he gave up the wild and crazy lifestyle of an on-air AM radio DJ to become a mundane technical support monkey. The technology industry has never really recovered from this. Kevin has worked for such names as IBM, Red Hat, webslingerZ, and Lulu Technologies (we won't mention the ones that didn't survive the experience). He currently works as a Linux Administrator for Apptio. In his spare time he rescues stray animals and plays video games with his two sons. His wife, we're sad to say, helps him get past the really hard bits. Kevin is still not very mundane, he just got better at hiding it.

As you know, I saw Ironman and thought it was ok, but I have always loved the IJ’s. I think you are in for a treat there. Did you get a snail mail from us?

Ah cool, I was considering taking my son (who’s 6) to see speed racer…but I wasnt sure that it would hold his attention, lol….I’ll probably have to take him now. :)

I saw Speed Racer, then Caspian a couple weeks later, then yesterday I saw Iron Man.
I’d have to agree with you. I never even read the comic books, and the Narnia series was one of my cherished childhood reads.
And yet I haven’t enjoyed anything yet this summer more than Iron Man. It was so epic!

And yes, I’m another one who’s wandered over from ursulav’s LJ. ;D
